Coming from an engineering background, I was already generally familiar with the practical applications of calculus in technical fields. Yet, this book proved genuinely enjoyable and highly informative, as it revealed the vast and unexpected real-world utility of calculus in domains far removed from traditional engineering. It was a pleasure to discover its significant, foundational role across fields like biology and medicine—areas where the language of change is just as crucial.
The book's coverage of these diverse applications was, without a doubt, the major highlight. However, for a reader with a strong technical base, the experience felt somewhat uneven. I believe the overall narrative would have been far more engaging and valuable if the historical background and foundational sections had been significantly condensed.
The real missed opportunity was the chance to dive deeper. A greater focus on the detailed discussion and exploration of the applications—perhaps featuring more complex or contemporary examples and case studies—would have made the material far more stimulating. Instead of lingering on the basics, the book could have propelled us forward into the current, cutting-edge use of this powerful mathematical tool.
